Abstract

In the orthodontics practice and orthopedics, one of the most important factors is determining biological maturity. Biological maturity, unlike chronological age—which only takes the time elapsed since birth, indicates an individual’s rate of development. This makes it possible to identify the appropriate time to apply orthopedic forces and thus make the most of the patient’s growth potential. Objective: To determine the relationship between the stages of mineralization of the lower second molar and cervical vertebral maturation to identify the peak identification of pubertal growth in radiographic records of patients treated at the Comprehensive Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the University of Guayaquil during the year 2026. Methodology: Quantitative approach, descriptive and correlational in nature, with a non-experimental design. The study included a population of 60 radiographic pairs (panoramic and cephalometric) and a final sample of 40 pairs from patients aged 6 to 12 years. Results: Conclusion: Indicators of cervical vertebral maturation and dental mineralization of the lower second molar exhibit a positive and statistically significant relationship. Consequently, both processes tend to progress in parallel during growth.
