The Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG is governed by the international standards published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). It is also based on the Best Practice Guidelines for Editors of Scientific Journals and the Publication Ethics Resource Kit (PERK), developed by the Elsevier publishing group, in order to ensure transparency in both the publication of contributions and the associated conflict resolution procedures.
The editorial team of the UG Dental Specialties Scientific Journal will ensure that all parties (editors, peer reviewers, and authors) fully comply with ethical standards throughout the editorial process.
The Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG follows the guidelines established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals,” which are available at: http://www.icmje.org. In this regard, authors are encouraged to read the document available at http://www.icmje.org/icmje-recommendations.pdf.

In this regard, authors must:

Declare any conflicts of interest and disclosures relating to previous personal, financial, or professional relationships that could influence the presentation of the research results to be published. If there is any statement in this regard, it will be published in the manuscript in the section designated for that purpose. Authors who detect any editing errors in their published document have the right to complain to the editor in charge, providing the necessary and substantiated information so that corrections can be made.  

Those declared as authors must have participated in the preparation of the articles so that they can publicly assume responsibility for their content. Qualification as an author must involve: a) the conception, design, or analysis and interpretation of the data, b) the writing of the article or its critical review, and c) the approval of the version to be published. 

Compliance with ethical standards regarding the publication of research involving human subjects is the sole responsibility of the authors and must be in accordance with the principles contained in the World Medical Association's Declaration of Helsinki (1964, revised in 1975, 1983, 1989, 1996, and 2000). To this end, the author must declare the relevant information in the Materials and Methods section, in addition to attaching the corresponding endorsements, records, and other documents authorizing the research process on which the article is based. 

Failure to comply with any of these rules will result in the immediate rejection of the proposal or the retraction of the publication if discovered after it has been made available in the corresponding issue.

Peer reviewers must:
Preserve the anonymity of this stage of the editorial process and declare any conflict of interest with respect to the content of the assigned article, which could be related to political, ideological, philosophical, or other positions, as well as any possible link at any time with the institution that constitutes the research environment stated in the document.

Maintain a respectful and professional attitude in relation to the proposal you are critically analyzing. The review will be objective and scientifically grounded. Suggestions and comments will be made constructively in order to improve the proposal.

The use of the formats established by the editorial structures is mandatory, and they must be completed with all the requested data and necessary arguments, in addition to reporting any potential ethical violations that the authors may be committing.

Reviewers shall endeavor to comply with the deadlines established by the editorial structures of the UG Dental Specialties Scientific Journal, maintain the confidentiality of their assessments and the content of the manuscripts assigned to them, and shall not involve third parties.

Violation of the regulations will result in a situational analysis by the editorial board of the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, with the aim of taking measures that could range from the annulment of the evaluation to the removal of the reviewer from the team.

The Editor shall have the duty to:

Keep authors informed about the progress of the editorial process in relation to their manuscripts, making objective decisions based on technical criteria and prioritizing the interests of science, the target audience, and the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG.

Participate in the analysis of ethical violations by authors, reviewers, or other editors, in order to establish fair measures in this regard. As well as making corrections or requesting apologies for certain editorial errors, where necessary.

Respect the confidentiality of all information handled in relation to authors, the particular editorial process of each article, and any matter requiring the authorization of the individuals involved.

Comply with established regulations regarding conflicts of interest, maintaining an ethical attitude. COPE mentions that the most frequent reasons why an editor may be excused from participating in the processing of an article are:
•    Collaborating with an author, currently or recently.
•    Having published with an author during the last 5 years.
•    Having had grants with an author, currently or recently.
•    Having a personal relationship with an author, which may detract from the objective performance of the editorial process related to a manuscript.

Members of the editorial board who do not follow the established regulations will be sanctioned according to the severity of the situation and may be removed from their positions in extreme cases.

 

Declaración de Ética y Buenas Prácticas

La Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG  se rige por los estándares internacionales publicados por el Comité de Ética en la Publicación (COPE). A su vez, se basa en la Guía de mejores prácticas para editores de revistas científicas y el Paquete de recursos para la ética en la publicación (PERK),  desarrollado por el grupo editorial Elsevier, a fin de garantizar transparencia tanto en la publicación de las contribuciones como en los procedimientos de resolución de conflictos asociados.

El equipo editorial de la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG  se asegurará de que todas las partes (editores, pares evaluadores y autores) sigan a cabalidad las normas éticas en todo el proceso editorial.

La Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG sigue los lineamientos establecidos por el “International Committee of Medical Journal Editors” (ICMJE), respecto a los “Requisitos de uniformidad para manuscritos enviados a revistas biomédicas”, los cuales se encuentran disponibles en la dirección electrónica: http://www.icmje.org. Al respecto, se sugiere a los autores realizar una lectura del documento disponible en http://www.icmje.org/icmje-recommendations.pdf.

Al respecto, los autores deberán:

Declarar cualquier conflicto de intereses y divulgación relativos a relaciones previas en el orden personal, financiera o laboral que pudieran influir en la forma en que se presentan los resultados de la investigación que se pretenden publicar. En caso de existir alguna pronunciación al respecto, se publicará en el manuscrito en el apartado destinado con ese fin. 

Los autores que detecten algún error de edición en su documento publicado tienen el derecho de reclamar ante el editor encargado, ofreciendo la información necesaria y fundamentada para que se proceda con las correcciones.  

Las personas declaradas como autores deben haber participado en la elaboración de los artículos, de modo que puedan asumir públicamente la responsabilidad con su contenido. La cualificación como autor debe suponer: a) la concepción, el delineamiento o análisis y la interpretación de los datos, b) la redacción del artículo o su revisión crítica, y c) la aprobación de la versión a ser publicada. 

El cumplimiento de las normas éticas referentes a las publicaciones de investigaciones con seres humanos es de entera responsabilidad de los autores y deben estar en conformidad con los principios contenidos en la Declaración de Helsinki de la Asociación Médica Mundial (1964, reformulada en 1975,1983, 1989, 1989, 1996 y 2000). Al efecto, el autor deberá declarar la información pertinente en el acápite de Material y métodos, además de adjuntar los correspondientes avales, registros y otros documentos que autoricen la realización del proceso investigativo en el que se fundamenta el artículo. 

El incumplimiento de cualquiera de estas normas implicará la inmediata denegación de la propuesta o la retractación de la publicación si fuera descubierto una vez que estuviera disponible en el fascículo correspondiente.

Los pares evaluadores deberán:

Preservar el carácter anónimo de esta etapa del proceso editorial y declarar cualquier conflicto de interés con respecto al contenido del artículo asignado, lo que pudiera estar relacionado con posicionamiento político, ideológico, filosófico o de otro tipo, además de posible vínculo en cualquier momento con la institución que constituye el entorno de investigación declarado en el documento.

Mantener una actitud respetuosa y profesional en relación con la propuesta a la que le realiza un análisis crítico. La revisión será objetiva y científicamente fundamentada. Las sugerencias y señalamientos se emitirán en forma constructiva de manera que favorezcan el perfeccionamiento de la propuesta.

La utilización de los formatos establecidos por las estructuras editoriales resultan de obligatorio cumplimiento y su llenado incluirá todos los datos se solicitan y argumentaciones que sean precisas; además de reportar todas las potenciales violaciones éticas en que pudieran estar incurriendo los autores.

Los revisores procurarán cumplir con los tiempos establecidos por las estructuras editoriales de la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, mantendrán el estado de confidencialidad de sus valoraciones y el contenido de los manuscritos asignados, no pudiendo involucrar a terceras personas.

La violación de la normativa implicaría un análisis situacional por parte del consejo editorial de la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, con el fin de la toma de medidas que podrían ir desde la anulación de la evaluación hasta la separación del equipo de revisores.

El Editor tendrá el deber de:

Mantener informados a los autores sobre la marcha del proceso editorial en relación con sus manuscritos, estableciendo decisiones objetivas basadas en criterios técnicos y priorizando los intereses de la ciencia, el público destino y la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG.

Participar en el análisis de las violaciones éticas de autores, revisores u otros editores, para establecer medidas justas al respecto. Así como en la realización de correcciones o solicitud de disculpas ante determinados errores editoriales, en los casos que sea necesario.

Respetar la confidencialidad de toda la información que maneja relacionada con los autores, el proceso editorial particular de cada artículo y acerca de cualquier cuestión que requiera la autorización de los individuos involucrados.

Cumplir con las regulaciones establecidas con respecto a los conflictos de intereses, manteniendo una actitud ética. COPE menciona que las razones más frecuentes por las que un editor puede ser excusado de formar parte en el procesamiento de un artículo son:

• Colaborar con algún autor, actual o recientemente.
• Haber publicado con algún autor durante los últi­mos 5 años.
• Haber tenido subvenciones con algún autor, actual o recientemente.
• Tener una relación personal con un autor, que puede restar objetividad a la realización objetiva del proceso editorial relacionado con un manuscrito.

Los miembros del consejo editorial que no sigan las regulaciones establecidas serán sancionados atendiendo a la gravedad de la situación, pudiendo ser retirados de sus funciones en casos extremos.
