PEER REVIEW EDITORIAL PROCESS (PEER REVIEW POLICY)

Original articles are submitted to an appropriate peer-review, which is developed in several phases.

Initially, the Editor-in-Chief receives the article and performs a first reading to determine whether the topic developed is within the scope of the journal. Subsequently, the format of the article is evaluated to verify that it complies with all specifications, including an evaluation of structure and originality (plagiarism avoidance policies), as indicated in the Norms for Authors. If any anomaly is detected or if it is found that the article does not comply with any of the aforementioned conditions, the Editor-in-Chief may decide to return the manuscript for modification or reject it without the right to appeal.

Once this first phase is completed, the Editor-in-Chief will assign the article, under the double-blind modality, to an Associate Editor, two members of the Editorial Committee and two external reviewers from our International Scientific Committee, or to recognized international experts. Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor decide the status of the article among the following options:

  1. A) The article is accepted without changes.
  2. B) The article is accepted with minor changes.
  3. C) The article is accepted if the authors agree to make substantial changes to the original manuscript.
  4. D) The article is rejected with no possibility of resubmission.

Once the corrected article (or with its due appeals) has been resubmitted to the journal, the designated Associate Editor performs a second review of the document, to ensure that all corrections have been made. In case the author(s) decide to appeal any modification, such appeal will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor. Afterwards, the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Committee will make the final evaluation, communicating the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript, being this final decision unappealable. The total time of the process can take between 6-12 weeks. Please note that our rejection rate is approximately 55%.

The Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, being an Open Access publication, allows the articles in its editorial version to be archived or the authors to make them available on the web and/or institutional repositories after their online publication.
