The Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG strictly follows the recommendations of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the EQUATOR network (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research) regarding international guidelines and standards for the presentation of research results for each type of study submitted to the journal for consideration.

The EQUATOR network (Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research) is an international initiative that seeks to improve the reliability and value of published health research literature by promoting transparent and accurate reporting and wider use of robust reporting guidelines.
Articles submitted to the Scientific Journal “Especialidades Odontológicas UG” must be original and unpublished and deal with topics related to the field of Stomatology and Public Health.

SUBMISSION
Manuscripts must be submitted in a letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, signed by each of the authors, requesting evaluation for consideration for publication. The letter must indicate:

1. That the manuscript is original and that all co-authors agree to its publication, that there are no conflicts of interest, and that they authorize the corresponding author to represent them throughout the submission/publication process.
2. That the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration for publication by another journal.
3. That the content, data, and information in the manuscript do not contain material copied from any other source.
4. That the authors transfer the print and electronic reproduction rights to the Journal and agree to comply with all of its rules, including format and any other relevant aspects.

SUBMISSIONS are made through the journal's editorial management system, using your username and password (if you have one) or by creating one to make the submission: https://revistas.ug.edu.ec/index.php/eoug/about/submissions. The following files must be included:

1.    PDF with Letter from the authors
2.    Word document with the full text of the manuscript, which must comply with the respective structure and standards, and must also include tables, graphs, or figures within the text.
3.    Additionally, all files must be attached individually for the tables, graphs, or figures found in the manuscript in JPG format.

ABOUT THE ARTICLE
The article must belong to one of the following categories:
•    Original articles
•    Clinical case reports
•    Literature review articles
The maximum number of authors per article is 4. Please provide the requested information on the first page.

ARTICLE REQUIREMENTS BY CATEGORY
The Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG accepts the following types of articles for publication:

• Original Research Articles: Includes laboratory, biological, and clinical research articles. This type of manuscript has a limit of 2,500-4,000 words, including Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. A maximum of 7 tables and/or figures may be included. Authors are advised to avoid unnecessary use of color. Additionally, there is a limit of 40 references. 
• Systematic Review / Literature Review Article: These articles generally emphasize the development of innovative topics of high relevance to dentistry in the last five years. Systematic reviews of relevant topics may be submitted, although articles with meta-analyses should only be considered when a sufficient number of studies are available in journals with a high international impact factor. This type of article has a limit of 4,000 words, with a total of 7 figures and/or tables and no more than 60 references.
• Clinical Case Reports: This type of article aims to report one or more clinical cases that use or develop innovative technologies/procedures or are clinically relevant to the field of dentistry and its specialties. Case reports are encouraged to be supported by a concise literature review, including the most relevant information on the topic from the last 5 years. These articles have a limit of 8,000 words (including literature review), or no more than 2,000 words (clinical case report only) and a maximum of 50 references

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
•    The article must be written in Spanish, in a Microsoft Word file, sent in ISO A4 size (8.5×11.4 inches), single-sided, Times New Roman font, font size 10, 1/1.5 spacing, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides.

TITLE PAGE
The title page (first page) must contain:
•    Title of the article in the original language (Spanish)
•    Title of the article in English
•    Full names of the author or authors: The names of the authors must be separated by a comma and must follow the following order: First and last names, followed by a superscript Arabic numeral, indicating the author's academic title or degree and institutional affiliation. Email address. ORCID code.
In a separate paragraph and preceded by the corresponding superscript number, the highest academic title or degree obtained and the name of the institution or institutions to which the author is affiliated should be placed, ending with the name of the city and country where the institution is located, email address. ORCID code.
•    Correspondence: the name of the author in charge, address, postal code, and email address must be included; additionally, the telephone number may be included.
(Second page) It must contain the Summary and Abstract of the work, as well as the complete development of the manuscript according to the outline detailed below:

Keywords must be Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS) and, in English, MeSH from PubMed.

TABLES, GRAPHS, AND FIGURES

Tables

The same font must be used but smaller (7-8pt). The number must be indicated, followed by a brief heading. The table must be cited in text.

Figures

Figures, graphs and photographs have to be inserted at the end of the Doc File during the submission process. The number and heading must be indicated. Avoid graphics in three dimensions and unnecessary use of color. After acceptance send the material in 300 DPI.

 

BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES
References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text, tables, and figure captions. It is recommended that superscript Arabic numerals be used without parentheses. (VANCOUVER guidelines)
Only references consulted directly by the researcher should be included; citations from citations (or secondary sources) should not be used.

REGISTRATION OF CLINICAL TRIALS
Clinical trials conducted in Ecuador must submit the respective protocol approval and registration from the National Agency for Health Regulation, Control, and Surveillance (ARCSA). Clinical trials not conducted in Ecuador must submit the international registration number of the study and the ethics committee responsible for its approval.

AUTHORS' CONTRIBUTION STATEMENT
The authors of each manuscript submitted to the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG must include in their cover letter a declaration of authors' contributions, detailing the participation of the manuscript's authors in its preparation, indicating in which sections (Introduction, Analysis, Results, Conclusions, etc.) each one collaborated.

The ICMJE recommends that authorship be based on the following four criteria:
• Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
•    Writing the work or critically revising it for important intellectual content;
•    Final approval of the version to be published;
•    Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

For all articles, a short paragraph specifying their individual contributions must be provided and would be published. The following statements should be used:

FUNDING
The authors of each manuscript submitted to the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG must indicate in their cover letter whether or not they have received funding from any public or private institution for the preparation of the research work, as well as provide details of the dates of funding and any other information considered relevant.

PROTECTION OF PATIENTS' RIGHT TO PRIVACY
Identifying information should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, ultrasounds, CT scans, etc., and genealogies, unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian, where applicable) gives their informed consent for publication. Authors should remove patients' names from figures unless they have obtained the patients' informed consent. The journal follows the guidelines of the ICMJE:

1) Authors, not journals or publishers, must obtain the patient consent form prior to publication and have the form properly filed. Consent forms should not be uploaded with the cover letter or emailed to the editorial or publishing offices.

2) If the manuscript contains images of patients that prevent anonymity, or a description that has an obvious indication of the patient's identity, a statement about obtaining the patient's informed consent must be included in the manuscript.

When experiments were conducted on human subjects, indicate whether the procedures comply with ethical standards established in advance, reviewed by an ad hoc committee of the institution where the study was conducted, or consistent with the Declaration of Helsinki (1975 and revised in 1983) 

If the research presented has required Informed Consent, a copy of this must be added to the manuscript as an attachment to the letter of acceptance from the corresponding Ethics Committee (University/Research Institute/Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador), and this approval must also be mentioned in the manuscript.

 

ATTITUDES THAT IMPLY IMMEDIATE REJECTION:

• The article is sent for publication to different journals simultaneously and this is confirmed. (Works whose content has been partially published as an abstract at congresses/conferences, among others, will be allowed).

• There is evidence of plagiarism in the article.

• The author does not respond to modifications in a timely manner without justifiable cause.

 

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHOR(S) & DISCLAIMER

• When submitting their manuscript to the editorial system of the REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG, authors must indicate in the cover letter which parts of the manuscript they participated in, for example (Introduction, Analysis, Results, Conclusions, etc.).

• The opinions expressed by the authors are their sole responsibility and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Editorial Committee of the REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG.

• The mention of the trade name of certain products does not imply that the REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG approves, recommends, or prefers them over other similar products that are not mentioned.

 

APPROVAL OF RESEARCH PROTOCOL

Authors of research papers must submit approval of the research protocol involving human subjects (clinical studies, observational studies with and without biological samples, and intervention studies), obtained prior to conducting the research, from a Human Research Ethics Committee recognized by the Ministry of Public Health, in accordance with the research regulations currently in force in the country.

 

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Authors submitting articles to the UG Dental Specialties Scientific Journal must declare any potential conflicts of interest. Conflicts of interest are those that could be considered or seen as an undue influence on the presentation, review, and publication of their work with a financial, non-financial, professional, or personal conflict. La Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG sigue a cabalidad las recomendaciones de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) y de la red EQUATOR (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research), en lo referente a las directrices y guías internacionales para la presentación de resultados de investigación para cada tipo de estudio presentado a la revista para su consideración.

La red EQUATOR (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research), es una iniciativa internacional que busca mejorar la confiabilidad y el valor de la literatura de investigación en salud publicada mediante la promoción de informes transparentes y precisos y un uso más amplio de pautas de informes sólidas.

Los artículos enviados a la Revista Científica “Especialidades Odontológicas UG”  deben ser originales e inéditos y tratar temas relacionados al área Estomatológica y de Salud Pública.

DE LA PRESENTACIÓN

El envío del manuscrito debe ser presentado mediante una carta dirigida al Editor Jefe de la Revista Científica “Especialidades Odontológicas UG”, firmada por cada uno de los autores, solicitando la evaluación para ser considerada su publicación. La carta debe indicar:

1. Que el manuscrito es Original y que todos los co-autores están de acuerdo con su publicación, que no existen conflictos de intereses, asi mismo deben autorizar a el autor correspondiente para representarlos en toda el proceso de envío / publicación.
2. Que el manuscrito no ha sido publicado en otro medio y que no está bajo consideración para su publicación por otra revista.
3. Que el contenido, los datos, la información del manuscrito no contiene material copiado de cualquier otro recurso.
4. Que los autores transfieren los derechos de reproducción impresos y electrónicos a la Revista y aceptan cumplir con todas las normas de la misma, incluyendo el formato y cualquier otro aspecto pertinente.

El ENVÍO se lo realiza a través del sistema de gestión editorial de la revista, por medio de su usuario y contraseña (en caso de disponerlo) o creando uno para realizar el envío: https://revistas.ug.edu.ec/index.php/eoug/about/submissions, allí deben constar los siguientes archivos:

REQUISITOS DE LOS ARTÍCULOS SEGÚN SU CATEGORÍA

La Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG acepta los siguientes tipos de artículos para su publicación:

Artículos de Investigación Original: Incluye artículos de investigación de carácter laboratorial, biológico y clínico. Este tipo de manuscrito tiene un límite de 2.500-4000 palabras, incluyendo Introducción, Materiales y Métodos, Resultados, Discusión y Conclusiones. Podrán ser incluidas un máximo de 7 tablas y/o figuras, se le sugiere al autor evitar el uso innecesario de color. Adicionalmente, se establece un límite de 40 referencias.

Artículo de Revisión Sistemática / Revisión de Literatura: Estos artículos generalmente enfatizan el desarrollo de temas innovadores, de alta relevancia para la odontología en los últimos cinco años. Las revisiones sistemáticas de temas relevantes podrán presentarse, siendo que los artículos con meta-análisis sólo deben considerarse cuando un número suficiente de estudios estén disponibles en revistas de alto factor de impacto internacional. Este tipo de artículo tiene un límite de 4.000 palabras, con un total de 7 figuras y/o tablas y no más de 60 referencias.

Reporte de Casos Clínicos: Este  tipo de artículo tiene como objetivo reportar uno o varios casos clínicos que utilicen o desarrollen tecnologías/procedimientos innovadores o con una relevancia clínica para el área de Odontología y sus especialidades. Se incentiva que los reportes de casos se sustenten con una revisión de literatura concisa, que incluya la información mas relevante del tema en los últimos 5 años. Estos artículos tienen un límite de 8.000 palabras (incluyendo revisión de  literatura), o bien no más de 2.000 palabras (solo el reporte del caso clínico) y un máximo de 50 referencias.

PREPARACIÓN DE LOS MANUSCRITOS

• El artículo debe ser redactado en castellano, en archivo Microsoft Word, enviado en medida ISO A4 (212×297 mm), en una sola cara, tipo de letra Times New Roman, tamaño de fuente 10 , a 1/ 1.5 espacio, con márgenes de 2.5 cm por todos los lados

PÁGINA DEL TÍTULO

La página del título (Primera página) debe contener:

• Título del artículo en el idioma original (castellano)
• Título del artículo en inglés,
• Nombres completos del autor o autores: Los nombres de los autores se deben separar entre sí por una coma y deben seguir el siguiente orden: Nombre y apellidos, seguido de un número arábigo en superíndice, llamando al Título o Grado Académico y a la afiliación institucional del autor. Correo electrónico. Código ORCID.

En párrafo aparte y precedido por el número correspondiente en superíndice, se debe colocar el Título o Grado Académico mayor obtenido y el nombre de la institución o instituciones a las que tiene afiliación el autor, finalizando con el nombre de la ciudad y país donde se encuentra la institución, Correo electrónico. Código Orcid.

• Correspondencia: se debe colocar el nombre del autor encargado, dirección, código postal y correo electrónico; adicionalmente se puede colocar el número de teléfono.

(Segunda página) Debe contener el Resumen y Abstract del trabajo, además del desarrollo completo del manuscrito según el esquema que se detalla acontinuación:

Se debe usar la misma fuente pero más pequeña (7-8pt). El número debe ser indicado, seguido de un breve encabezado. La tabla debe ser citada en el texto.

Las figuras, los gráficos y las fotografías se deben insertar dentro del Archivo Word durante el proceso de envío. El número y el encabezado deben ser indicados. Evitar los gráficos en tres dimensiones y el uso innecesario del color. Enviar el material en 300 DPI.

REGISTRO DE ENSAYOS CLÍNICOS

Los ensayos clínicos ejecutados en el Ecuador obligatoriamente deberán presentar la respectiva aprobación del protocolo y registro de la Agencia Nacional de Regulación, Control y Vigilancia Sanitaria (ARCSA). Los ensayos clínicos, no ejecutados en el Ecuador, presentarán el número de registro internacional del estudio y el comité de ética responsable de la aprobación.

DECLARACIÓN DE CONTRIBUCIÓN DE AUTORES

Los autores de cada manuscrito enviado a la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG deberán enviar en su carta de presentación, una declaración de contribuación de autores, es decir detallar la participación que tuvieron los integrantes del manuscrito en la elaboración del mismo, señalando en los apartados (Introducción, Análisis, Resultados, Conclusiones, etc) que cada uno colaboró.

El ICMJE recomienda que la autoría se base en los siguientes 4 criterios:

• Contribuciones sustanciales a la concepción o diseño del trabajo; o la adquisición, análisis o interpretación de datos para el trabajo; 
• Redactar el trabajo o revisarlo críticamente para contenido intelectual importante; 
• Aprobación final de la versión a publicar; 
• Acuerdo para ser responsable de todos los aspectos del trabajo para garantizar que las preguntas relacionadas con la precisión o integridad de cualquier parte del trabajo se investiguen y resuelvan adecuadamente.

Para todos los artículos, se debe proporcionar un breve párrafo que especifique sus contribuciones individuales y que se publicará. Se deben utilizar las siguientes declaraciones:

FINANCIAMIENTO

Los autores de cada manuscrito enviado a la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG deberán enviar en su carta de presentación, la indicación o no de haber recibido financiamiento de alguna institución pública o privada para la elaboración del trabajo de investigación, así mismo detallar fechas del financiamiento e información que se considere relevante.

PROTECCIÓN DEL DERECHO A LA PRIVACIDAD DE LOS PACIENTES

La información de identificación no debe publicarse en descripciones escritas, fotografías, ecografías, tomografías computarizadas, etc., y genealogías, a menos que la información sea esencial para fines científicos y el paciente (o padre o tutor, cuando corresponda) dé su consentimiento informado para su publicación. Los autores deben eliminar los nombres de los pacientes de las cifras a menos que hayan obtenido el consentimiento informado de los pacientes. La revista se rige por las pautas del ICMJE:

1) Los autores, no las revistas ni el editor, deben obtener el formulario de consentimiento del paciente antes de la publicación y tener el formulario debidamente archivado. Los formularios de consentimiento no deben cargarse con la carta de presentación ni enviarse por correo electrónico a las oficinas editoriales o editoriales.

2) Si el manuscrito contiene imágenes de pacientes que impiden el anonimato, o una descripción que tiene una indicación obvia de la identidad del paciente, se debe indicar en el manuscrito una declaración sobre la obtención del consentimiento informado del paciente.

Cuando se efectuaron experimentos en seres humanos, indicar si los procedimientos satisfacen normas éticas establecidas de antemano, revisadas por un comité “ad hoc” de la institución en que se efectuó el estudio, o concordantes con la Declaración de Helsinki (1975 y revisada en 1983) . 

Si la investigación presentada ha requerido un Consentimiento Informado, se debe agregar al manuscrito una copia de éste como adjunto la carta-aceptación del Comité de Ética (Universidad / Instituto de Investigación / Ministerio de Salud Pública del Ecuador) correspondiente, además mencionar dicha aprobación en el manuscrito.

ACTITUDES QUE IMPLICAN RECHAZO INMEDIATO:

• Que el artículo sea enviado con fin de publicación a diferentes revistas de manera simultáneas y se confirme. (Se permitirán trabajos el cual su contenido haya sido publicado parcialmente como abstracto en congresos/conferencias, entre otros).
• Que se evidencie plagio del artículo.
• Que el autor no responda a las modificaciones en el tiempo adecuado sin causa que lo justifique.

RESPONDABILIDAD DEL AUTOR(ES) & CLÁUSULA DE EXENCIÓN DE RESPONSABILIDAD

• Los autores al momento del envío de su manuscrito en el sistema editorial de la REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG debera´n indicar en la carta de presentación, en qué partes del manuscrito participó por ejemplo (Introducción, Análisis, Resultados, Conclusiones, etc.).
• Las opiniones expresadas por los autores son de su exclusiva responsabilidad y no reflejan necesariamente la opinión del Comité Editorial de la REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG
• La mención del nombre comercial de ciertos productos no implica que la REVISTA CIENTÍFICA ESPECIALIDADES ODONTOLÓGICAS UG apruebe, recomiende o los prefiera a otros similares que no se mencionen

APROBACIÓN DE PROTOCOLO DE INVESTIGACIÓN

Los autores de los trabajos de investigación, deberán presentar de manera obligatoria la aprobación del protocolo de investigación en seres humanos (estudios clínicos, observacionales con y sin muestras biológicas y estudios de intervención), obtenido previo al desarrollo de la investigación, por parte de un Comité de Ética de investigación en Seres Humanos reconocido por el Ministerio de Salud Pública, conforme lo establece las normativas de investigación actualmente vigentes en el país.

CONFLICTO DE INTERES (CONFLICT OF INTEREST)

Los autores que envíen sus artículos a la Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG deben declarar cualquier posible conflicto de intereses. Los conflictos de intereses son aquellos que podrían considerarse o verse como una influencia indebida en la presentación, revisión y publicación de su trabajo con un conflicto financiero, no financiero, profesional o personal.
