All articles (Originals, Clinical Case Reports, and Reviews) undergo an appropriate peer review process, which is carried out in several phases.
Initially, the Editor-in-Chief receives the article and conducts an initial reading to determine whether the topic falls within the scope of the journal.

Subsequently, the format of the article is evaluated to ensure that it complies with all specifications, including an assessment of structure and originality (policies for the avoidance of plagiarism), as indicated in the Guidelines for Authors. If any anomalies are detected or if the article is found to be in breach of any of the above conditions, the Editor-in-Chief may decide to return the manuscript for modification or reject it without the right of appeal.

Once this first phase is complete, the Editor-in-Chief will assign the article, under a double-blind review process, to two external reviewers from our International Scientific Committee or to recognized international experts. Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor will decide on the status of the article from among the following options:

1.   The article is accepted without changes.
2.   The article is accepted with minor changes.
3.   The article is accepted if the authors agree to make substantial changes to the original manuscript.
4.   The article is rejected without the possibility of being resubmitted.

Once the corrected article (or with the appropriate appeals) has been resubmitted to the journal, the designated Associate Editor conducts a second review of the document to ensure that all corrections have been made. If the author(s) decide to appeal any modification, such appeal will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor. Next, the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Committee will make the final evaluation and communicate the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript, this decision being final and unappealable. The total time for the process can take between 6-12 weeks. Please note that our rejection rate is approximately 55%.

As an Open Access publication, the Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG allows articles in their editorial version to be archived or made available by authors on the web and/or in institutional repositories after their online publication.

 

Proceso de Revisión

Todos los artículos (Originales, Reportes de casos clínicos y Revisiones) se someten a una adecuada revisión de pares (peer-review), la cual se desarrolla en varias fases.

Inicialmente, el Editor-en-Jefe recibe el artículo y realiza  una primera lectura para determinar si el tema desarrollado se encuentra dentro del alcance de la revista. Posteriormente, se evalúa el formato del artículo comprobando que cumpla con todas las especificaciones, incluyendo una evaluación de estructura  y originalidad (políticas para la evasión del plagio), tal como se indican en las Normas para Autores. En caso de detectarse alguna anomalía o de constatarse que el articulo incumple con alguna condición  citada anteriormente, el Editor-en-Jefe puede decidir devolver el manuscrito para su respectiva modificación, o bien rechazarlo sin derecho a apelaciones.

Una vez completada esta primera fase, el Editor-en-Jefe asignará el artículo, bajo la modalidad doble ciego, a dos evaluadores externos de nuestro Comité Científico Internacional, o a reconocidos expertos internacionales. Basado en los informes de los revisores, el Editor-en-Jefe y el Editor Asociado deciden la condición del artículo entre las siguientes opciones:

1. El artículo es aceptado sin cambios.
2. El artículo es aceptado con cambios menores.
3. El artículo es aceptado si los autores aceptan realizar cambios sustanciales al manuscrito original.
4. El artículo es rechazado sin posibilidades de ser presentado de nuevamente.

Una vez que se ha reenviado a la revista el artículo corregido (o con sus debidas apelaciones), el Editor Asociado designado realiza una segunda revisión del documento, para asegurar que se hayan efectuado todas las correcciones. En caso de que el (os) autor(es) decida apelar alguna modificación, dicha apelación será considerada por el Editor-en-Jefe y el Editor Asociado. Seguidamente, el Editor-en-Jefe y el Comité Editorial realizarán la evaluación final comunicando la aceptación o rechazo del manuscrito, siendo este dictamen final inapelable. El tiempo total del proceso puede durar entre 6-12 semanas. Tome en consideracion que nuestra tasa de rechazo es de un 55% aproximadamente.

La Revista Científica Especialidades Odontológicas UG, al ser una publicación Open Access, permite que los artículos  en su versión editorial sean archivados o los autores los pongan disponibles en la web y/o  repositorios institucionales a partir de su publicación online.
