About of appropriate language and style for writing articles:

• Authors must use simple sentence structures, avoiding those too long or complex.
• The vocabulary used must be basic and common. The technical language must be briefly explained; also, the meaning of the acronyms must be given the first time they appear in the text.
• Authors are responsible for their work to be conducted in a professional and ethical manner.

About the length of articles

Manuscripts will have a maximum length of 12 pages in A4 size and in single space, with symmetrical margins of 2 cm, not counting the presentation page. Only in the case of review articles the 12 pages do not include bibliographic references.

About the presentation format

Submitted articles must be unpublished works written in English or Spanish, and must be typed in Microsoft Word (2003 and beyond), complying with the following indications:

• Times New Roman, 12 points (unless otherwise required for some sections).
• A single column in single space.
• Paragraphs are justified, and there should be no space between consecutive paragraphs.
• Do not include page breaks or section endings.
• If you want to highlight words or phrases in the text, do not use bold letter but italics.
• Decimal places must be pointed to with a comma (,) and not a period.
• Thousands and millions must be ed with a thin space.
• Avoid footnotes.
• Arabic nomenclature should be used up to the third level only.
• Each page will be numbered in the bottom margin in centered position and end with full words.

Presentation page

The first page (without numbering), must contain only the titles in Spanish and English and the names and surnames of the authors, in Roman alphabet, complying with the following indications:

• Times New Roman, 16-point (Title in Spanish).
• Times New Roman, 14-point (English title).
• Bold and centered alignment.
• Times New Roman, 12-point (Authors' First and Last Names), centered alignment.

About the article structure

Papers must have the following structure and comply with the following requirements:

Composition of an article

All articles submitted for evaluation and possible publication by the Investigación, Tecnología e Innovación must have at least the following components:

• Title in English and Spanish (mandatory).
  
• Abstract in English and Spanish (mandatory).
  
• Keywords in English and Spanish (mandatory).
  
• Introduction (mandatory).
• Material and Methods (mandatory).
• Results (mandatory).
• Discussion (mandatory).
  
• Conclusions (mandatory).

• Acknowledgments (optional).
  
• Bibliographical references.

Title

The article title must be short or divided in title and subtitle, attractive for the potential reader, and written in capital letters. It should appear centered between the margins, written in Century Schoolbook letter, in bold, font size 16. Maximum 20 Words.

Abstract

The abstract has to be clear and concise. It must not exceed 200 words and must be structured according to the following headings (separated and written in bold: Context, Method, Results and Conclusions). This type of summary allows to give uniformity to articles regardless of the typology, that is, if it is a research article, or review. It must not contain abbreviations, bibliographic references, or unknown characters.

Keywords

Keywords comprise a maximum of five (5) words, which reflect the content of the article and are appropriate for search engines. The keywords must be written in alphabetical order and be of standardized use, for which it is suggested to use international databases according to the area of knowledge.

Abstract in Spanish

Translation to the Spanish language of the text that appears in the abstract, it must be correct and precise.

Keywords in Spanish

Translation to the English language of the keywords in Spanish, they must be correct and precise.

Introduction

The problem should be clearly identified and framed in the current moment, briefly expose the most relevant works, and highlight the contributions of other authors to the subject under study, justify the reasons why the research is carried out and formulate the relevant hypotheses and objectives.

Material and Methods/Methodology

A recommended sequence to write this section will be: define the population and the study group, the selected design, the selection and assignment of subjects to study groups, the intervention or treatment, the methods of analysis and those of information processing (statistical analysis). Its content should allow any professional specialized in the subject to replicate the research. New techniques must be detailed with the precision necessary for a complete understanding.

Results

Only the information relevant to the objectives of the study should be presented, the findings should follow a logical sequence, and mention the relevant data, even those contrary to the hypothesis, should be reported in sufficient detail to justify the conclusions. Tables and figures can be presented to contribute to the sharpness of the explanation.

Discussion

The coherence and fundamental contradictions of the data obtained are discussed, where the implications of the results with respect to the original hypotheses are evaluated and qualified. At this point the reader has the right to demand clear and direct explanations about whether the study offered an answer to the problem raised in the introduction, to know what the real contribution was, to know what conclusions were reached and to the theoretical-practical implications that can be inferred from the study.

Conclusions

Implication of the results and their relationship with the proposed objective. You should use the past tense and be careful not to repeat what is described in the discussion.

Acknowledgments

They should preferably be brief and include the essential contributions for the development of the paper.

Equations

Equations must appear centered with respect to the main text. They must be referenced with consecutive numbers (written in parenthesis close to the right margin). Equations are cited in the main text employing the word equation and followed by the number in parenthesis. Equations must be made in an appropriate equation editor and compatible with "InDesign" software, as for example the equation editor of Windows.

Tables

In the case of table implementation, it is recommended that these are not inserted as images, considering that in that format they cannot be modified. The title of each table must include the word table (in italic) followed by the corresponding consecutive number and a brief name of the table. The heading must be written in Futura letter, italic, and font size 7. Charts are not presented but tables and they should be automatically raised from the text processor. Tables should be named and referenced in the article, in strict order. Every table must have at the bottom the source from which it was taken, or to mention self-authorship if it is the case.

Figures

All the figures or pictures have to be sent PNG format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI, adapted to a grayscale.

The footnote or name of each figure must include the word figure (in italic) followed by the corresponding consecutive number and a brief description of the content of the figure. The footnote of the figure must be written in Futura letter, italic, and font size 7. Figures must be named and referenced in the article, in strict order. Every figure must have at the bottom the source from which it was taken, or to mention self-authorship if it is the case.

Symbols

The symbols of the constants, variables, and functions in Latin or Greek letters –included in the equations- must be in italic; the mathematical symbols and the numbers do not go in italic. The symbols must be identified immediately after the equation. Units, dimensions, and symbols of the international system must be used.

When using acronyms or abbreviations, the complete equivalence should be written first, followed by the corresponding acronym or abbreviation in parenthesis and from there it is only written the respective acronym or abbreviation.

Bibliographic references

The adopted reference citation style by Investigación, Tecnología e Innovación is APA sixth edition. Bibliographic references and infographics are included at the end of the article, it should not have more than 10-years-old, 25% must correspond to publications indexed in Scopus, and 25% must correspond to publications of Investigación, Tecnología e Innovación. The bibliographic references must be alphabetically ordered according to the author’s first surname, without numbering.

There should only appear the cited references in the main body of the work, in tables or in figures. It means, in the list, there should not appear other references although they have been consulted by the authors for the work preparation. We suggest using tools such as Cites and bibliography from Microsoft Word (for APA sixth edition version 2013 or superior), Zotero, Mendeley, among others.

The call for a bibliographic reference is inserted in the text, at the pertinent point, under certain characteristics:

• If the sentence includes the author’s surname, it should only be written the date into a parenthesis, for instance:

Cuando Vasco (2012), analizó el problema de presentado en ….

• When the author is not included in the sentence, surname, and date must be into a parenthesis.

La investigación de materiales dio una visión en el área (Martínez, 2012).

• If the document or work has more than two authors, the first cite must include all the surnames.

• In the following mentions, it must only be written the author’s first surname, followed by "et al.".
