Abstract

Infections caused by yeast of the genus Candida have increased dramatically in 500% about recent decades worldwide, affectingbetween 70 and 75% of women at a childbearing age, it is also estimated that 40 to 50% of them experience a recurrence. Inparallel with this increase, we have noticed the emergence of resistance to antifungals, as well as the selection of species different to Candida albicans, ali of which have contributed to the neccessity of standardizing susceptibility testing, among which is agardiffusion with antifungal impregnated disks. In this descriptive study, laboratory culture in Saboraud and chromogenic agar and direct techniques were u sed to determine the frequency and species of Candida and M44A CLSI document forsusceptibilitytofluconazole; the data distribution accordingto age and recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (CVV). Sixty-seven pregnant womenparticipated, within whose samples 74.2% (n = 23) of Candida albicans and 25.8% (n = 8) of Candida krusei were identified. Meanwhile the determination of resistance to fluconazole was 30.4% (n = 7) for C. albicans and 100% (n = 8) for C. krusei. Toe 58.1 % (n = 18) had recurrent vulvovaginitis; and the most common ages for these occurrences were between 21 and 44 years old. (UNPA, 2012).
