Chagas disease is a public health problem in Ecuador, whose magnitude is being better quantified and in the meetings of the Andean initiative for the control of this disease it is recommended to strengthen all efforts in research on vectors. In 2003, the first case was reported abo from the Zapotal area, Cantón Windows, province of the rivers with proven intra-household transmission by Rhodnius ecuadoriensis, also registered for the first time in this area. The aforementioned antecedent leads to the investigation and capture of R. ecuadoriensis, in 10 homes, confirming its existence in the region, although the evidence indicates that there is no domiciliation. The insect reaches homes attracted by artificial light and the ecological and social conditions of housing that allow its easy penetration, being considered an important potential transmitter of Trypasonoma cruzi to humans. In this report the polymerase chain reaction technique is standardized for future studies and the population is trained and motivated to carry out the necessary research to establish the real importance of this disease in the region.
