Abstract

This paper presents empirical evidence about relationship between economic cycle and fiscal policy in Ecuador during the period of official dollarization in Ecuador (2001-2020), the analysis is divided for each of the different presidential periods. The two-stage Hodrick Prescott filtering technique and cross correlation function (CCF) are used to analyze strength and direction of the relationship between economic activity and fiscal policy variables. The main result found with the relationship between economic cycle and fiscal policy is that as presidential terms have progressed, procyclicality has increased.
