Abstract

The present work assesses the correlation between clinical histology examination and ultrasonography of thyroid nodules in 380 patients. All patients to enter the investigation must have the FNA performed and their diagnosis certified, and this will be classified according to the Bethesda classification13 and the histopathological classification of the World Health Organization (2004). the ultrasonographic examination will be taken to the TIRADS system to group the patients according to the possibility of malignancy. The highest percentage of patients evaluated were female (86.8%), while the female gender was 13.2%. The highest percentage corresponds to the age group between 30 to 39 years at 31.1%, followed by the groups of 40 to 49 years and 50 to 59 years with 18.9%. 11.8% of the patients are young and 19.2% are older adults. Clinical and ultrasonographic characteristics correlate significantly in thyroid nodules. 39.2% of the patients evaluated have neck pain and recorded hypoechogenicity. 38.4% suffer from dysphagia and recorded hypoechogenicity. 35.3% presented a rapidly growing nodule and registered hypoechogenicity. 47.6% of the patients evaluated presented a nodule greater than 4 cm and registered hypoechogenicity. 38.4% presented a nodule with a hard consistency and hypoechogenicity. 25.3% of the patients evaluated presented a nodule greater than 4 cm and recorded vascularity. 25.5% presented a hard consistency nodule and recorded vascularity.
