Surgical treatment of chronic subdural hematoma secondary to head trauma
Keywords:
CRANEOENEPHALIC INJURY, CHRONIC SUBDURAL HEMATOMAAbstract
They develop in senile people after minor head injuries.
Objectives: To determine future postoperative complications after a decompressive craniotomy through trepan holes, to associate comorbidities, to determine factors that determined a surgical treatment and to relate age, sex, clinical manifestations and evolution time.
Methodology: It was descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional research, carried out from 2018-2020 at the Abel Gilbert Pontón Hospital, Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Results: The predominant age group was 60 to 70 years. The male sex was the most affected. The main mechanism of trauma was unknown. The initial presenting symptom is mild headache. The time of onset of symptoms is usually after 1 month. Brain atrophy is the most common commotion. According to the Glasgow scale, mild TBI is more predominant.
Conclusion: It is frequent in elderly male patients between 50 and 70 years old, with an average of 60 years.
