Stigmatization of neurodiversity from the perspective of students in the Bachelor's program in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports

Abstract

Introduction: Neurodiversity is a process of integration that has gained momentum over the years, where neurodivergent students and/or those with invisible disabilities have received increased support from both the community and political sectors. 

Over time, laws have been created to support the educational, social, and cultural development of this population. Despite their condition, their cognitive processes develop differently from those of other people, which does not prevent them from carrying out their daily activities. This process leads us to consider that neurodiversity and/or invisible disabilities have existed for years but have not received the attention they deserve from families, education professionals, and society in general. It is essential to highlight the inclusion processes that have emerged over time.

In Colombia, there are various governmental policies, such as Law 1618 of 2013, which focuses on the integration of individuals with physical disabilities and intellectual and/or sensory impairments. This law has benefited these populations by increasing their rate of social adaptation, as they receive protection from the Colombian state. Consequently, over time, the integration of people with ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, etc., would become a cultural norm.
