Context: A brief overview of the author's expertise in this area is presented in the right-hand box. This article addresses the application of tropical knowledge and biogenic agriculture as comprehensive strategies for the decontamination and improvement of water quality in the Guayas River basin, Ecuador. Objective: The ecological roles of Azolla Trichormus in the remediation of contaminated waters are analyzed, as well as the optimization of land use and water resources in the region. Method: (It is implicit in the analysis of ecological roles and the application of the Azolla-Trichormus-rice system). Results: The results highlight the phytoremediation capacity of the Azolla-Trichormus-rice system and its contribution to environmental and productive sustainability. Conclusions: This work contributes to the understanding of the Guayas ecosystem and its potential for integrated water management from a tropical and biogenic approach.
