The purpose of the research was to evaluate the agronomic and industrial performance of 12 rice lines under dry and puddled conditions in order to develop a new variety as an alternative for farmers in the area. The lines were developed by ITAV through selection, starting from plants chosen in some ecosystems of the province of Los Ríos and a genetic improvement plan. The tests were carried out in the agricultural year 2011 in the farm "Los Grarnales", located at Km 5 1/2 of the Puebloviejo - Catarama highway (dry land: February - June) and "Consuelito" located at Km 19 of the Yinces - Palestina highway (puddle: July - November). A randomized experimental block design was used, with four repetitions and a plot size of 10 rows of 6 m, separated by 0.25 between them (15 m2). At harvest, the external rows of each experimental unit were discarded. The management of the trials was similar to conventional practices for managing a commercial crop, both in dry land and in pond sowing, that is: soil preparation, sowing (direct in the first and seedbed, nailing and transplanting in the second) fertilization (89 kg/ha of N and 100 kg/ha of K20 for the first and 23 kg/ha of N for the second), etc. In addition, the dry land trial received a total of 870 mm of precipitation, lower than the historical average. The evaluation of the work was carried out based on agronomic characteristics of the plant, yield components, yield itself, industrial and cooking aspects. It was concluded that the lines Ar ITAV 6, ARITAV 8, Ar ITAV IO and CC-03 stood out from the other lines and controls, with yields higher than 3,700 and 8,000 kg/ha of paddy rice in dry and pond conditions and for other attributes.
