The objective is to expose the debates around the analysis of debt sustainability based on conceptualization, contextualization and application of conventional sustainability methodologies. Under the latter, it was mainly determined as follows: i) the debt was sustainable until 2008; and, ii) Despite the fact that in 2015 the economy decelerated sharply, unsustainability was reduced. It is concluded that when a developing country overcomes structural problems, through the mobilization of savings, it contributes to the equity position of the economy to sustain public debt in the coming periods through higher and sustained economic growth.
