The two-stage Hodrick Prescott filtering technique and cross correlation function (CCF) are used to analyze strength and direction of the relationship between economic activity and fiscal policy variables. The main result found with the relationship between economic cycle and fiscal policy is that as presidential terms have progressed, procyclicality has increased.
