The objective of this research work is to identify the challenges of the Samborondon canton at the internal and external level of rice production, the canton being one of the areas with the lowest yield in terms of production. In general, it is known that rice is the main ingredient of the Ecuadorian family's diet, however, every year, Ecuadorian rice producers show disagreement with the trade, production and financing policies of this economic activity since they do not manage to profit from these. The research methodology is qualitative-quantitative, databases from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, among others of equal relevance and reliability, have been used. It can be mentioned that the decrease in domestic production, the FTA between Colombia and Peru with the US, the limited diversification of rice derivatives are part of the challenges to overcome.
