Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a surgery commonly used to treat gallbladder pathologies, but it may be associated with perioperative complications. Study design: This is a retrospective, observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study. Methodology: It involved a retrospective review in which 321 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a given period of time and who met the inclusion criteria were studied and data on age, sex, days of hospitalization, and operating time were obtained. and need for conversion. Results: Those patients with complete information regarding the Parkland Singh scale were included, as well as records of postoperative complications. The results obtained showed a significant correlation between the highest scores on the Parkland scale and a higher risk of postoperative complications. Patients with higher scores were found to have a higher incidence of surgical wound infections, intraoperative bleeding, and the need for conversion to open surgery. Conclusion: The Parkland Singh scale was identified as a useful preoperative predictor to assess the risk of complications in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The incorporation of this scale in the preoperative evaluation can help to identify those patients with a higher risk of complications, which allows for better perioperative planning and management. However, additional prospective studies are required to validate these findings and determine their clinical applicability in medical practice.
