Divertículo de Meckel y apendicitis aguda: coexistencia infrecuente y diagnóstico transoperatorio

Introduction: Meckel’s diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Although frequently asymptomatic, its inflammation may mimic acute appendicitis, and it is often discovered incidentally during surgery for acute abdomen.
Method: We present the case of a young adult female with clinical signs of acute appendicitis. During surgery, an inflamed Meckel’s diverticulum was identified and resected together with the appendix.
Results: The patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged 24 hours after surgery. Histopathological examination confirmed acute appendicitis and Meckel's diverticulitis, with no ectopic tissue or acid-peptic activity.
Conclusion: The coexistence of Meckel’s diverticulum and acute appendicitis is
rare and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen.
