Manuscript Evaluation Process

All manuscripts submitted to Sport Science, Training and Research (original research articles and review articles) are subject to a peer review process, which is carried out in several stages in order to ensure the scientific quality, methodological rigor, and academic relevance of the works published.

Initial Editorial Evaluation

In the first stage, the Editor-in-Chief receives the manuscript and conducts a preliminary review to determine whether the content of the article falls within the thematic scope of the journal, which includes sport sciences, sports training, physical activity, physical education, and related fields.

Subsequently, an initial editorial review is conducted to verify compliance with the journal’s publication guidelines, evaluating aspects such as:

  • manuscript structure

  • compliance with the required format

  • adherence to the author guidelines

  • originality of the content and anti-plagiarism policies

For this purpose, manuscripts are screened using similarity detection software in order to identify possible cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

If any irregularities are detected or if the manuscript does not comply with the requirements established by the journal, the Editor-in-Chief may:

  • return the manuscript to the authors for correction, or

  • reject the manuscript before it enters the peer review process.

Peer Review

Once the manuscript has successfully passed the initial editorial review, it is sent to two external reviewers specialized in the subject area, under the double-blind review system, ensuring anonymity for both authors and reviewers.

The reviewers belong to the International Scientific Committee of the journal or are external researchers with recognized expertise in the field of sport sciences and sports training.

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief, together with the Associate Editor, determines the editorial decision regarding the manuscript. The possible decisions are:

A) The article is accepted without modifications.
B) The article is accepted with minor revisions.
C) The article is accepted subject to major or substantial revisions.
D) The article is rejected.

Review of Revised Versions

When reviewers request revisions, the authors must submit a revised version of the manuscript, accompanied by a detailed response to the comments made during the review process.

The assigned Associate Editor will review the revised document to ensure that the requested corrections have been adequately addressed. If the author(s) disagree with any of the reviewers’ comments, they may submit a well-justified academic response, which will be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor.

Final Editorial Decision

Once the review process has been completed, the Editor-in-Chief, together with the Editorial Board, will issue the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. This decision will be formally communicated to the authors and will be considered final.

The journal Sport Science, Training and Research maintains an approximate rejection rate of 25%, reflecting its commitment to the scientific quality of the articles published.
