Sport Science, Training and Research adheres to the international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), available at:
https://publicationethics.org

Likewise, the journal follows the editorial best practices and principles of academic integrity contained in the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK) developed by Elsevier, available at:
https://www.elsevier.com/editor/perk

These guidelines aim to ensure transparency, integrity, and ethical responsibility in the publication of scientific contributions, as well as in the procedures related to peer review, editorial evaluation, and the resolution of potential conflicts associated with the editorial process.

The editorial team of Sport Science, Training and Research ensures that all parties involved in the editorial process (editors, reviewers, and authors) strictly comply with ethical principles throughout all stages of manuscript evaluation, review, and publication.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must:

  • Declare any conflicts of interest, whether personal, financial, institutional, or professional, that may influence the interpretation or presentation of research results. If such conflicts exist, they must be explicitly stated in the corresponding section of the manuscript.

  • Ensure that submitted works are original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous consideration by another scientific journal.

  • Guarantee that all individuals listed as authors have made significant contributions to the preparation of the work and can publicly assume responsibility for its content. Authorship should be based on:
    a) the conception and design of the study or the analysis and interpretation of the data;
    b) drafting the manuscript or critically revising it with relevant intellectual contributions;
    c) approval of the final version to be published.

  • Inform the responsible editor if errors or inaccuracies are identified in a published article, providing the necessary information to carry out the appropriate corrections.

  • In studies involving human participants, authors must ensure compliance with ethical research principles, including obtaining informed consent from participants and approval from the relevant institutional ethics committees when required. This information must be declared in the methodology or materials and methods section of the manuscript.

Failure to comply with these standards may result in the immediate rejection of the manuscript or the retraction of the article if the irregularity is detected after publication.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must:

  • Maintain anonymity and confidentiality throughout the peer review process.

  • Declare any potential conflict of interest that may affect the objectivity of their evaluation.

  • Conduct objective, rigorous, and scientifically grounded reviews, maintaining a respectful and professional attitude toward the work being evaluated.

  • Provide comments and recommendations in a constructive manner, aimed at improving the scientific quality of the manuscript.

  • Use the evaluation formats and criteria established by the journal, reporting any potential ethical concerns identified during the review process.

  • Comply with the established deadlines for evaluations and refrain from sharing the manuscript content with third parties without authorization from the editorial team.

Failure to comply with these standards will be reviewed by the Editorial Board, which may adopt measures ranging from the cancellation of the review to the removal of the reviewer from the journal’s evaluation system.

Responsibilities of the Editor

The editor must:

  • Keep authors informed about the status of the editorial process of their manuscripts and make objective decisions based on academic and scientific criteria, prioritizing the quality and relevance of the contributions.

  • Ensure fairness and transparency in the selection and evaluation of manuscripts.

  • Participate in the assessment of possible ethical misconduct committed by authors, reviewers, or other editors and apply the appropriate measures when necessary.

  • Respect the confidentiality of all information related to authors, manuscripts, and the editorial process.

  • Comply with regulations regarding conflicts of interest, refraining from participating in the editorial process when academic, institutional, or personal relationships may compromise the objectivity of the evaluation.

According to COPE guidelines, an editor must refrain from participating in the editorial handling of a manuscript when:

  • they have recently collaborated with one of the authors;

  • they have co-authored publications with any of the authors within the last five years;

  • they have received funding or grants jointly with any of the authors;

  • there is a personal or professional relationship that may affect the objectivity of the editorial process.

Members of the Editorial Board who fail to comply with the established regulations may be sanctioned depending on the severity of the situation and may be removed from their functions in extreme cases.
