In recent years, the devastating effects of human neglect towards nature, the exploitation and use of fossil fuels, industrialization, overpopulation, and consequently the high demand for consumption, have caused current development to be affected by pollution, which is destroying and harming the planet's development. The levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) have significantly increased over the last 70 years. CO2 is the second most important greenhouse gas after water vapor, accounting for 72% of emissions (mostly from fossil fuels) from industrialized countries; its average lifespan in the atmosphere is 100-150 years. These gases prevent the natural reflection of infrared rays from the sun back into space, resulting in the warming of the Earth.
