Restauración de heras comunitarias para la producción hortícola, reciclaje orgánico y gestión integrada de suelo y agua

The objective of the research was to evaluate the restoration of community Heras through the
use of organic substrates to improve horticultural production and soil quality in the community of
Sarampión, Manabí, Ecuador. A mixed approach was used, by establishing five experimental units
with different combinations of forest land, leaf litter and cattle manure. The properties of the soil,
the development of crops and production were analyzed. The results showed that the treatments
with Mountain soil + cattle manure presented greater availability of nutrients and greater fruit
production, highlighting the cultivation of pepper. For its part, substrates with leaf litter favored
foliar development in chives and cilantro. In general, the incorporation of organic matter improved
soil conditions and crop yields. It was concluded that community gardens constitute a viable
strategy to restore horticultural production, sustainability in small-scale agricultural systems,
considering organic recycling and integrated soil and water management.
