The conservation of the architectural heritage of downtown Guayaquil requires a comprehensive approach that combines international criteria, technical diagnostics, chemical analysis, and interdisciplinary methodologies. Responsible intervention in historic buildings seeks to preserve the spatial layout, ornamental elements, compatibility of materials, and architectural identity of each property. This article examines the application of international conservation principles, highlighting the importance of preliminary studies, mortar analysis, and consolidation of original materials to ensure sustainable and ethically responsible results, using the former Banco de Descuento, as a case study.
